Congress demands KCR quit as MLA

Congess

HYDERABAD: Telangana Congress will hold a protest at Indira Park Dharna Chowk on Sunday, demanding that former chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao resign as an MLA. Ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Duddilla Sridhar Babu called on party workers to make the protest a success.

The ministers spoke at a preparatory meeting held in Hyderabad to review arrangements for the protest. They asked party workers to highlight the welfare schemes and development programmes implemented by the Congress government during its 1,000 days of governance and highlight what they described as the failures of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government.

Ministers target KCR over Assembly absence

Ponnam Prabhakar alleged that Rao had been drawing an MLA’s salary for 1,000 days but had not attended the Assembly, remained unavailable to people in his constituency or discharged his role as the opposition leader.

“Why should an elected representative continue as an MLA if he does not discharge his responsibilities to the people?” Prabhakar asked. He demanded that Rao resign from the MLA post immediately.

Prabhakar said Congress had organised protests across all constituencies in the state over the past two days, demanding Rao’s resignation.

Congress highlights welfare schemes under Praja Palana

Prabhakar said the previous BRS government had caused serious damage to the state during its 10-year tenure and alleged that 100 years of destruction had taken place in those 10 years.

He said the benefits of welfare schemes were reaching people at the grassroots under the Congress government’s Praja Palana. He asked party workers to explain to people the government’s programmes, including free bus travel for women, 200 units of free electricity, LPG cylinders for ₹500, Indiramma houses and measures for farmers, education and healthcare.

Party mobilises workers for Sunday protest

The ministers said senior Congress leaders, MLAs, MLCs and other public representatives would attend Sunday’s protest. They directed the Hyderabad and Rangareddy district Congress committee presidents and constituency in-charges to coordinate the mobilisation of party workers and leaders from every constituency.

They also asked the National Students’ Union of India, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and other frontal organisations of the party to participate in large numbers.

The ministers directed district Congress committee presidents and MLAs to meet at Indira Park Dharna Chowk at 4pm on Saturday under the leadership of Rajya Sabha MP Mandadi Anil Kumar Yadav to inspect the arrangements for the public meeting.

They also asked district Congress committee presidents, constituency in-charges and representatives of the NSUI, Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and other frontal organisations to coordinate media conferences ahead of Sunday’s protest.

Sridhar Babu participated in the meeting through a teleconference.

Minister Mohammed Azharuddin, Rajya Sabha MP Mandadi Anil Kumar Yadav, former MPs Madhu Yashki Goud and Anjan Kumar Yadav, MLA Naveen Yadav, Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Khairatabad and Secunderabad district Congress committee presidents, constituency in-charges, corporation chairpersons and other senior leaders attended the meeting.
