GHMC Clear Rain Water

Hyderabad: Following heavy rains in Hyderabad, several low-lying residential colonies in the city have got inundated with rain water. Residents are suffering as it has become difficult for them to even come out of their homes. Similar situations prevailed in several areas including colonies in Mehdipatnam, Bowenpally, Nizampet, Begumpet among other areas in the Greater Hyderabad limits. The citizens are taking it to X, a micro-blogging platform previously known as Twitter to share their woes with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC)

On X, the residents of Old Bowenpally lamented that a mere 15-20 minutes of rainfall is also making the roads flow like rivers. The resident has also shared the video depicting how a inner lane is flowing with rain water submerging the bottoms of their two wheelers and four wheelers.

Meanwhile, Residents of Vivekananda Colony in Mehdipatnam took to X and shared that the stagnated rain water in their area is not letting them step out of their houses.

It has also become difficult for the senior citizens, women and school children using their personal vehicles to travel in rain water filled areas after the rainfall inundated their inner lanes. Further, lack of a footpath has made their situation even worse.

Adding to the woes, some of the manholes and potholes have become invisible for residents to cross through, posing a life threat in the rainy season. Residents lament that the situation is same everytime it rains in the city.

Meanwhile, GHMC officials are also addressing the inundation issues and are assigning it to the ground level staff to clear the areas. The GHMC officials are also inspecting the areas at the field level. However, there are several areas that are left to be cleared. Residents say that the poor drainage system is also responsible for the inundation in colony roads.
