Hyderabad Citizens Forum promotes environment-friendly Vinayaka Chavithi
Hyderabad: In a bid to promote environmentally-friendly practices ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi, the Hyderabad Citizens Forum distributed clay Ganapatis on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Bagh Lingampally Sundarayya Park. This initiative was conducted under the auspices of the Sundaraya Park Walkers Club and Hyderabad Zindabad in collaboration with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
One of the members of the Hyderabad Citizens Forum said, “Pollution levels are rising daily. In response, we have been organizing the free distribution of eco-friendly Ganesh idols for the past eight years with the support of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC). We distribute Ganesh idols at 45 centers across the city in collaboration with various residential welfare associations to raise awareness and promote the use of eco-friendly idols. We urge everyone to join us in this effort to protect our environment by using only eco-friendly Ganesh idols and reducing pollution.”
Dr. Jayasurya, an environmentalist, spoke about the importance of continuing traditional practices. “For many years, our ancestors used clay Ganesh idols. Let us honor this tradition and adopt eco-friendly practices today,” he said. “With the current state of environmental degradation and pollution, using clay Ganesh idols is a step towards protecting our environment and all living things on Earth.”
Rajeev Kumar, a member of the Nallakunta Citizens Association, highlighted the benefits of eco-friendly Ganesh idols. “Eco-friendly idols do not pollute our water resources, and they also protect our health. They are easy to prepare and can be immersed at home in a bucket of water. Let us all pledge to use and buy eco-friendly idols. Our slogan is, ‘Protect the Earth today.'”
The Hyderabad Citizens Forum’s initiative promotes environmental sustainability and the preservation of cultural traditions.
