Hyderabad citizens demand action on long-pending encroachment complaints

Hyderabad: Citizens of Hyderabad are voicing their frustration over unresolved complaints regarding encroachments by a commercial establishment in Rikab Gunj, near the High Court of Telangana. Activist Akshay Kumar (@akshayactivist) took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to criticise the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for its inaction.

He stated, “Netizens, do you believe @GHMCOnline is a government department? A complaint from 2019 is still pending, and @CommissionrGHMC has failed to take any action as per the law, encouraging culprits to destroy footpaths. Footpaths in Hyderabad are not for public use,” tagging GHMC Mayor @gadwalvijayainc and Telangana Chief Minister @revanth_anumula.

Other users supported Kumar’s concerns. A user named Abdul commented, “100 percent true, and they close the ticket without resolving it. As a taxpayer, it’s a matter of shame. The problem is that no one monitors them; they are just enjoying taxpayers’ money. I have five tickets that have been closed without resolution.” Deva Raj (@dev_raju) added, “Bro, you are lucky that your ticket is still open. @GHMCOnline closes tickets without even resolving the issues.”

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Akshay Kumar expressed his disappointment, stating, “GHMC officials are not taking any action despite my reports about footpaths being encroached upon by commercial establishments. I reported the issue back in 2019, and now the roads are being occupied with permanent structures by the same establishments, causing traffic jams. The department seems least bothered.”

Kumar highlighted that his original complaint from 2019 regarding encroachments on footpaths has now escalated to new concerns about concrete structures obstructing roads. “I complained about this issue in 2019 and raised it again yesterday, but it remains unresolved,” he said.
