Hyderabad police seize spoiled dry fruits, trader held in Charminar

HYDERABAD: The Special Crime Team of the Central Crime Station (CCS), Hyderabad, along with the Food Adulteration Team and Bahadurpura police, apprehended a trader for allegedly selling spoiled and unhygienic dry fruits in the Charminar area.
Acting on credible information on March 12, 2026, the teams conducted a joint raid and detained Asawa Manish, 42, a businessman residing at Chelapura in Charminar. Police said he was supplying spoiled dry fruits to customers while falsely claiming they were of good quality and fit for consumption.
Spoiled stock found in godown
Investigators said the accused operated a godown under the name GEM Foods (Imports and Exports) in Chelapura. During the raid, officials seized 30 carton boxes containing large quantities of dry fruits.
According to the police, the seized products showed signs of fungal growth and emitted a foul smell. The stock was allegedly stored in unhygienic conditions, making it unsafe for human consumption.
Officials said the trader had been selling the spoiled items to the public by misrepresenting them as high-quality products.
Police issue public advisory
The operation was carried out by Inspector D. Bikshapathi of the Special Crime Team along with his staff, the Food Adulteration Team and Bahadurpura police. The action was supervised by G. Venkateswar Reddy, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Special Crime Team, CCS, Hyderabad.

Police advised citizens to remain cautious while purchasing food items, particularly packaged or bulk products such as dry fruits. They urged consumers to check the quality, smell and appearance of products before buying or consuming them.
Authorities also asked the public to report any sale of spoiled, adulterated or unhygienic food products to the nearest police station or food safety authorities.
