Champapet Hit-Run Horror: Speeding Student Drags, Kills Biker; Jailed

HYDERABAD: A 27-year-old man died after a speeding car rammed his two-wheeler from behind on Champapet road under Saidabad police station limits, police said. The incident occurred around 00.30 IST between January 16 and 17, 2026.
The victim, Sunil Kumar, was riding home when a Kia car hit his motorcycle from the rear and dragged it for nearly 50–100 metres before fleeing the spot. Locals rushed him to a private hospital, where he remained critical for over a day and died between January 18 and 19.
Police said CCTV footage from the area captured the vehicle dragging the two-wheeler, which helped investigators trace the car involved in the crash. Based on a complaint lodged by a relative of the victim, Saidabad police registered a case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder and took up the investigation.
During the probe, police identified three occupants of the car at the time of the accident. The prime accused was identified as Sai Charan, 21, a student of Roots College in Hyderabad, who was driving the vehicle.
Police arrested Sai Charan and produced him before a court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Two other persons who were in the car at the time of the incident are absconding. Further investigation is on, police said.
