Chain snatchers strike four places across Hyderabad in one morning

HYDERABAD: A pair of chain snatchers on a single motorcycle carried out four offences across three police station limits in Hyderabad on Saturday morning, police said.
The incidents were reported from Chaitanyapuri police station limits at two locations, and one each in Nagole and Hayathnagar police station limits. Police later found that the motorcycle used in the crimes had been reported stolen earlier the same day at Gopalapuram police station.
Hayathnagar incident:
At around 9 am, Chintakuntla Vijaya, a resident of Anjanadri Nagar Colony, Hayathnagar, was returning from the Anjaneya Swamy temple with another woman when two unidentified men on a Pulsar motorcycle snatched a three-tola gold chain from her neck and fled. Based on her complaint, Hayathnagar police registered a case and began an investigation.
Chaitanyapuri incidents:
In Ramakrishna Puram Colony, Chaitanyapuri, Adilakshmi, 40, was returning home from a nearby temple around 10.21 am when two unidentified men on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her gold chain. She resisted and held on to the chain, but the assailants managed to escape with about one-and-a-half tolas.
About 10 minutes later, near the New Maruti Nagar Community Hall, Padma, 71, was walking when two men on a motorcycle tried to snatch her chain. She raised an alarm and resisted, forcing the suspects to flee without success.
Nagole incident:
In another case, Majemma, 58, a resident of Jaipuri Colony, was on her way to her son Pramod’s house in Rajyalakshmi Colony on Saturday morning when two unidentified youths snatched a two-and-a-half-tola gold mangalsutra from her from behind and escaped towards Nagole Main Road. Nagole police registered a case following her complaint.
Police traced the motorcycle used in the offences to registration number TS-10 B 2141. The vehicle belongs to Prakash, a private employee staying in a hostel in Secunderabad’s Regimental Bazaar area. He had reported the motorcycle stolen at 4.10 am on Saturday at Gopalapuram police station.
Chaitanyapuri inspector K Saidhulu said CCTV footage was being examined and special teams had been formed to trace the suspects. Nagole inspector Mohammed Maqbool Jani said the same stolen motorcycle was used for chain snatching incidents in Hayathnagar, Nagole and Chaitanyapuri police station limits on the same day, and investigations were underway based on CCTV evidence.
