Charminar to Chowmahalla walk: Heritage lovers to explore Hyderabad’s cultural history on April 18

Hyderabad celebrates World Heritage Day with walk from Charminar to Chowmahalla

Hyderabad: In an exciting move to promote the city’s rich history and to commemorate the World Heritage Day – 2025, the Deccan Heritage Academy is organising the ‘Hyderabad Heritage Walk’ in the city on Friday, April 18.

The early morning walk will commence from historic Charminar and will take the history buffs through other heritage sites including Mahbub Chowk (Murgi Chowk), Iqbal-ud-Dowla Devdi before ending the walk at Chowmahalla, the former palace of the Nizams of Hyderabad State.

The heritage walk will be flagged off by Er. Vedakumar Manikonda, Chairman of Deccan Heritage Academy Trust near Charminar at 7.30 am. It is aimed at spreading awareness on a range of heritage and architectural styles to trace the city’s cultural history.

Deccan Heritage Academy is conducting the walk in association with Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Hyderabad Circle, with the support of Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation, JBR Architecture College and Forum for a Better Hyderabad.

World Heritage Day is celebrated every year on April 18 to honor and protect cultural and natural heritage. It is also called the International Day for Monuments and Sites. This year’s theme is “Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts: Preparedness and Learning from 60 years of ICOMOS Actions.”
