Hyderabad firm booked after ₹1.5 crore psychotropic substance seized
HYDERABAD: A joint enforcement team of the Telangana Prohibition & Excise Department and the Drugs Control Administration seized 5.850 kg of the psychotropic substance N-Benzylpiperazine (BZP), valued at about ₹1.58 crore, during a raid at Hyma Synthesis Pvt. Ltd. in IDA Nacharam, Medchal–Malkajgiri district, on July 7, 2026.
Officials said the inspection, conducted as part of a special joint enforcement drive, found the firm in alleged unauthorised possession and stocking of BZP. The substance is notified as a psychotropic substance under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and is listed in Schedule I of the NDPS Rules, 1985.
Firm allegedly failed to maintain mandatory records
According to the authorities, the firm also failed to maintain statutory records relating to the acquisition, possession and utilisation of the psychotropic substance in Form 7, as required under Rule 67A of Chapter VII-A of the NDPS Rules, 1985. Officials said this amounted to violations of the provisions of the Act and the Rules.
BZP is a synthetic stimulant and designer drug that produces effects similar to MDMA. Authorities said it has stimulant and euphoriant properties and is liable to be misused as a recreational drug. Its unauthorised manufacture, possession, purchase, sale, transport or use is punishable under the NDPS Act.
Case registered under NDPS Act
The Prohibition & Excise Department registered a case against the firm under Section 8(c) read with Section 22(c) of the NDPS Act, 1985. Officials said further investigation is underway and appropriate legal action will be taken against those found responsible.
The inspection was carried out by R. Thirupathi Yadav, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Special Task Force (STF), Prohibition & Excise Department; Ch. Nagaraju, Circle Inspector, STF; G. Indira Priyadarshini, Drugs Inspector, Drugs Control Administration; and K. Anvesh, Drugs Inspector, Drugs Control Administration.
In a statement, the Prohibition & Excise Department and the Drugs Control Administration said they would continue stringent enforcement against the illegal possession, stocking, sale and diversion of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances to safeguard public health and curb drug abuse.
