Dundigal Residents Pothole Protest

Dundigal: Fed up with potholes, the local residents in the Bowrampet in Dundigal municipality began a novel protest in order to grab the attention of the local authorities. Some of the residents under the leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have started planting paddy crops in the potholes that are filled with the rain water. The residents further demanded action from the local Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the bad state of affairs.

In a now viral video, the residents can be seen, especially women planting the crops in the rain water filled in a pothole at a junction, just in front of a Congress flexi, while some of the other men standing in the rain by carrying umbrellas in their hands.

Potholes have become one of the significant problems in Hyderabad. When left unaddressed, the potholes are also leading to accidents for commuters in unfortunate circumstances. With the rainy season, several low lying areas are being inundated with rain water and potholes in such areas are becoming invisible, which has become a further worrisome situation.

In another incident in Hyderabad, a woman in Hyderabad sat in a pothole on one of the main roads in Nagole stretch. The woman then said that she is one of the regular users of that road and she had to face issues as the pothole remained unfilled for months. She added that she wanted to highlight the issue for school going children. However, the authorities responded that they could not take up any developmental works with the then ongoing election season and the model code of conduct in place.

Earlier there were also instances in Hyderabad, when the residents and activists used the names of placards and placed them in the potholes in order to get the attention of the officials on the issue.
