Hyderabad school drug racket busted, 7 kg alprazolam seized

HYDERABAD: A narcotics manufacturing unit operating from an abandoned school building in Bowenpally has been busted. Police said a four-member gang was caught red-handed while producing alprazolam, a banned psychotropic substance.
The operation was carried out by the Hyderabad Police Eagle Team, which arrested the accused while they were shifting the contraband. Officials seized 7 kg of alprazolam and ₹20 lakh in cash from the site.
Police said the gang had been running the operation inside the school building for some time. “We are investigating why they chose this premises,” an official said. Sources indicated that the arrested men were not locals and had come from other areas.
Alprazolam, often mixed with alcohol, is widely abused among youth, according to police. Officers said the bust has dealt a blow to drug circulation in the city.
The incident has triggered concern among residents of Bowenpally, who fear that narcotics manufacturing in residential areas could endanger the community.
Police officials warned that strict action would be taken against drug peddlers. They urged citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity. “This operation shows our commitment to curbing drug trafficking in Hyderabad,” a senior officer said.
