BMW in Hyderabad switches number plates instantly

HYDERABAD: An unusual case of number plate manipulation surfaced during a drunk driving check in Jubilee Hills, leaving traffic police surprised.
Traffic police conducting checks on Road No. 1 near Chiranjeevi Blood Bank on Friday night stopped a BMW car around 12.30 am. The driver underwent a breath analyser test, which showed an alcohol level of 137 BAC.
During verification, the driver identified himself as Gautam but refused to share further details.
Police noticed that the car had different number plates DL 6 CM 7097 at the front and TS 9 FQ 9999 at the rear.
Button switches number plates instantly
On inspecting the vehicle, officers found a special mechanism installed inside. A button near the steering enabled automatic switching of number plates from TS 9 FQ 9999 to DL 6 CM 7097.
Using the chassis and engine numbers, police confirmed that the vehicle’s original registration number was DL 6 CM 7097.
The car was seized and shifted to the police station.
Driver used system to avoid traffic penalties
Police said the accused used the technology to evade traffic challans. The mechanism allowed instant switching of both front and rear number plates while driving.
Officials noted that this is the first such case detected in the city.
A case has been registered against Gautam for drunk driving, non-cooperation, and use of fake number plates. Further investigation is underway.
