Biryani dispute turns violent in Hyderabad; hotel owner, customer injured

HYDERABAD: A dispute over missing chicken pieces in a biryani order escalated into violence at a hotel in Bharathnagar in the early hours of May 1, leaving multiple people injured and property damaged.

According to Sanath Nagar police, the incident took place around 00.00 IST at Victoria Hotel. A customer had initially visited the hotel and asked for a jumbo chicken biryani pack. Staff informed him that only four single packs were available, which he purchased and left with.

Customer returns alleging absence of chicken leg pieces

Police said the customer returned shortly after, claiming the biryani did not contain leg pieces and demanded replacement. The hotel owner told him the establishment had closed and no additional items were available.

The customer allegedly became aggressive, damaging property in the air-conditioned dining area by throwing sofas and kicking doors. When questioned, he reportedly called three others to the spot.

The group allegedly abused and assaulted the hotel owner and staff using sticks and stones, causing bleeding injuries. During the altercation, the complainant reported the loss of a wristwatch, while a staff member lost a mobile phone and wallet.

Police register case under multiple BNS sections

Sanath Nagar police registered a case under Sections 118(2), 115(2), 352 and 324(2), read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigation is ongoing.

In a counter-complaint, P. Arun of Bharathnagar alleged that he had sent his friend Dileep to purchase chicken biryani, but found no chicken pieces in the order. Arun stated that he, along with Dileep, Rakesh and Shiva, went to the hotel to question the owner, Mohin.

Arun alleged that the owner and staff verbally abused them and assaulted him. He claimed he was struck on the head with a large Manchurian spoon, resulting in a serious injury.

He was shifted to a hospital in Kukatpally, where doctors administered eight stitches. Arun also alleged that their motorcycles parked outside the hotel were damaged during the incident.
