Begumpet cyber fraud siphons ₹40.08 lakh

HYDERABAD: Cyber fraudsters siphoned off ₹40.08 lakh from a company account by sending fake messages impersonating its managing director in Begumpet.
According to Begumpet police, K.S. Ramachandra Rao, finance manager at O&S Aluminium Fabrication Private Limited, received a message on April 28 from a number saved under the name of the company’s managing director, G. Anand, asking for an urgent transfer of funds.
Believing the request to be genuine, Ramachandra Rao transferred ₹36.80 lakh first and later ₹3.28 lakh to the account mentioned in the message.
APK file enables access to MD’s personal details
The fraud came to light after he contacted Anand, who said he had not sent any such messages. Police found that cyber fraudsters had installed an APK file titled “RTO Traffic E-Challan APK” on Anand’s phone.
Using the APK file, they accessed the managing director’s personal details and executed the fraud from the company account.
Police register case, probe underway
Based on Ramachandra Rao’s complaint, Begumpet police registered a case and started an investigation.
