Notorious house burglar held in Hyderabad, ₹30 lakh stolen property recovered

HYDERABAD: The Begum Bazar police on Saturday apprehended a habitual house burglar and recovered stolen gold ornaments weighing about 206 grams and cash worth ₹2,14,600, with the total seizure valued at around ₹30 lakh.
Police identified the accused as Amar Sonkambale, 20, a native of Udgir village in Latur district of Maharashtra, who was residing near NM Guda in Kishan Bagh, Hyderabad. He was working as a waiter in function halls.
According to police, Amar was allegedly involved in three house burglary cases and one case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act registered in Hyderabad.
Police said the accused was previously booked in the following cases:
- Crime No. 191/2025 under Sections 331(4) and 305 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Begum Bazar police station
- Crime No. 987/2025 under Section 305(A) BNS at Attapur police station
- Crime No. 129/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 BNS at Begum Bazar police station
- Crime No. 606/2025 under Section 333 BNS and Sections 7 read with 8 of the POCSO Act, 2012 at Attapur police station
Police said the latest burglary took place in the early hours of May 6, 2026, between 03.30 IST and 05.30 IST at Hindi Nagar in Goshamahal.
Complainant M Krishna alleged that unidentified persons stole gold ornaments weighing about 235 grams and cash of nearly ₹10 lakh from his residence at 5-5-726/A, Hindi Nagar, Goshamahal.
Based on the complaint, Begum Bazar police registered a case in Crime No. 129/2026 under Sections 331(4) and 305 BNS and launched an investigation.
During the investigation, the Begum Bazar Station House Officer and the crime team analysed CCTV footage and traced the accused. Police apprehended him on May 17, 2026, and recovered the stolen property from his possession.
Police said Amar allegedly committed thefts to meet expenses related to alcohol consumption, smoking and visiting pubs.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Golconda Zone, G Chandra Mohan said the accused was apprehended within a short period and most of the stolen property was recovered.
The investigation was carried out by Inspector P Bharat Kumar, Detective Sub-Inspector K Jagadeeshwar Rao and the Begum Bazar crime team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police K Chandra Sekhar Reddy.
