Telangana Bar Council elects 23 members

HYDERABAD: Twenty-three members are elected to the state Bar Council in the elections held on January 30.
Counting ends after multi-stage vote process
Counting began on February 10, with the first result declared on March 11. The process concluded on Tuesday. Based on polled votes, the minimum quota was fixed at 1,085.
No candidate was elected in the first preference vote count. In the second preference round, Ponnam Ashok Goud was elected first. Other candidates secured victory subsequently.
Five women elected under reservation quota
Among the 23 elected members, five are women under the reservation quota. The elected members include Ponnam Ashok Goud, Zakir Hussain Javid, A. Mahesh Kumar, A. Anantha Sena Reddy, T. Hanumantha Reddy, K. Sunil Goud, G. Kiran Kumar, C.H. Venkata Yadav, V. Raghunath, M. Sahodar Reddy, S. Ram Reddy, D. Madhusudana Rao, M.A.K. Muqeed, G. Anil Kiran Kumar, M. Srinivasa Rao, D. Jagadeeshwara Rao, G. Rama Rao, D. Raghavulu, C.H. Bhanu Chandrika, C.H. Shailaja, S. Paripoorna, P. Sujatha and B. Sunitha.
Two more women will be elected as co-option members by a high-power committee. The Advocate General will serve as an ex officio member.
From among the members, one each will be elected as Bar Council chairman, vice-chairman and member of the Bar Council of India.
203 candidates contested for 23 posts
A total of 203 candidates, including 55 women, contested for the 23 posts. Several candidates have already begun efforts to contest for the chairman’s post.
