Bike robber snatches ₹2.5 lakh from man outside bank

HYDERABAD: A bike borne offender snatched a cash filled bag from a 65-year-old man moments after he stepped out of a private bank in Ashok Nagar on Thursday evening, triggering panic in the area.
Police said Venkateshwara Rao, a retired employee of Kakatiya Cement and a resident of Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar, had withdrawn ₹2.5 lakh from the bank and was walking towards his parked car when the assailant rode up from behind, grabbed the bag and sped away.
Police launch search; CCTV footage being examined
Officers said teams were deployed to check exit routes from Ashok Nagar, a busy commercial locality with multiple narrow by-lanes that often allow snatchers to escape quickly. The Domalguda police began collecting footage from the bank premises and nearby establishments to identify the bike and track the movement of the offender.
Investigators said CCTV review is the primary step in such cases, as offenders often circle the area before striking. Police are also verifying whether the victim was followed from inside the bank or targeted at random once he stepped out.
Spike in cash-theft attempts concerns police
The incident adds to recent concerns over thefts occurring near banks and ATMs in central Hyderabad. Police said residents should avoid carrying large amounts of cash visibly and should remain alert while stepping out of financial institutions, especially during evening hours.
A case has been registered and further investigation is underway.
