Banjara Hills crash kills two in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: A 20-year-old woman preparing to travel to Dubai and a Home Guard working part-time as a bike taxi rider died in a road accident in Banjara Hills on Monday morning.
Akshita, a native of Vizianagaram in Andhra Pradesh, had completed a hotel management course and came to Hyderabad on Sunday night for her Dubai visa process. She stayed at a friend’s house in Chintal.
On Monday morning, she attended an interview in Mehdipatnam as part of the visa process and booked a Rapido bike to travel towards Panjagutta.
Syed Hussain, 40, a Home Guard attached to Santoshnagar traffic police station, had completed his duty at 8 am and joined Rapido service. He picked up Akshita from Mehdipatnam and was heading towards Panjagutta.
Tanker runs over victims near Vengal Rao Park
According to Banjara Hills police, a water tanker coming at high speed hit their bike from behind at the Vengal Rao Park turning on Road No. 1. Both fell on the road and the rear wheel of the tanker ran over them.
Akshita died on the spot. Hussain, who sustained critical injuries, was shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences, where he died shortly after.
Police arrested the tanker driver, Khaja Pasha, 30, a resident of Ibrahimnagar in Banjara Hills, and booked him under attempt to murder charges. A case has been registered and investigation is on.
Hussain, a resident of Arzu Bell Colony in Chandrayangutta, is survived by three children. While Akshita was set to travel to Dubai, Hussain was preparing to return home after work. Both lost their lives in the accident.
Police inspected the accident site.
