HYDERABAD: Police rescued an elderly man who was stuck in mud near a lake in Balapur for nearly four hours on April 22.

The incident occurred at Gurram Cheruvu, where the man, identified as Hanumanthu, was found trapped.

At around 14.00 IST, passersby noticed him struggling in the mud and alerted the police. A team from Chandrayagutta police station reached the spot and carried out the rescue.

A video of the operation later surfaced on social media, showing police personnel pulling him out of the mud.

Man says he entered lake after someone called him

After the rescue, Hanumanthu failed to give a clear explanation for entering the lake. When asked about his address, he said “Bollaram” and claimed that he had stepped into the lake because someone called him.

Police said he appeared to be under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Police suspect attempt to catch fish

“The man was drunk and stuck in the lake for four hours. He could not explain why he entered the lake and asked us to leave him alone after being rescued,” an official from Chandrayagutta police station said.

Police suspect that he may have entered the lake to catch fish.
