Hyderabad authorities coordinate multi-agency efforts for peaceful Bakrid festival in city
HYDERABAD: Sri Kothakota Sreenivasa Reddy, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Hyderabad held a coordination meeting for the upcoming Bakrid festival at ICCC, Banjara Hills. Representatives from various departments, including Veterinary and Animal Husbandry, GHMC, RTA, and Cyberabad & Rachakonda Police Commissionerates, participated in the meeting.

Key attendees included Sri Vikram Singh Mann, IPS, Additional CP Law & Order; Sri Ronald Rose, IAS, Commissioner, GHMC; Dr. Budha Prakash Jyoti, IAS, Transport Commissioner; Dr. Ch. Malleshwari, Additional Director, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry; and Dr. Abdul Wakil, Chief Veterinary Officer, GHMC. Senior police officers of Hyderabad City and other officials, including DCsP of Law & Order and Traffic Wings of Hyderabad City, DCsP SB of Cyberabad and Rachakonda Commissionerate, Addl. DCsP, ACsP of Hyderabad City, and veterinary doctors also attended the meeting.
Discussion on check posts
Commissioner Sreenivasa Reddy discussed the establishment of check posts in and around Hyderabad City Commissionerate. These check posts aim to prevent the illegal transport of cattle without a Veterinary Doctor Certificate. He emphasized that vehicles carrying cattle illegally should be seized and sent to cattle holding points. He urged the public not to take the law into their own hands by stopping and checking vehicles carrying cattle. Reddy requested public support in this regard.
The Commissioner requested the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department and GHMC to ensure veterinary doctors are available at check posts around the clock. GHMC officials were also asked to deploy dog-catching squads in mixed localities to catch stray dogs before Bakrid. They should supply covers to households for carcass disposal. He also said to form special teams for garbage and carcass collection on the day of Bakrid.
RTA involvement
The RTA department was instructed to keep sufficient drivers, mechanics, and cranes at strategic points. Which are in view to assist with the festival’s logistics. This ensures that any vehicular issues can be promptly addressed.
