Hyderabad police nab delivery worker for plate fraud

HYDERABAD: Police have arrested a Swiggy delivery worker for allegedly using a fake registration number on his scooter to evade traffic challans.
The accused, identified as V. Suresh Kumar, 26, a resident near Jubilee Hills Metro Station, was found using registration number AP39KG7219 on his Honda Activa. Police said the number belongs to another scooter registered in Nellore.
ANPR system helps trace scooter with duplicate registration
Officials said the violation was detected during routine inspection by Hyderabad Traffic Police. CCTV cameras and Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology flagged the duplicate number, enabling police to track the vehicle and apprehend the accused.
Police said the scooter’s actual registration number is TS09BWTR7624.
Accused used another vehicle’s identity to evade challans
Investigators said the accused used the fake number plate to avoid legal penalties and mislead enforcement authorities. Such misuse can result in wrongful challans or legal complications for the genuine vehicle owner.
A case has been registered at Jubilee Hills police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
Police warn strict action against tampered number plates
Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) D. Joel Davis said using fake or tampered number plates is a serious offence and will attract strict action.
He added that Hyderabad Traffic Police are equipped with surveillance systems to detect such violations and track vehicle movements effectively.
Police urged citizens to report suspected misuse of registration numbers through the e-Challan portal, email helpline, or WhatsApp helpline.
