Hydraa, Ghmc Measures Prevent Waterlogging At Maitrivanam

HYDERABAD: Heavy rain lashed parts of the city, including Jubilee Hills, Krishna Nagar, Yousufguda and Madhuranagar, but the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) averted flooding near Maitrivanam and Ameerpet Metro station due to timely measures. Workers cleared large quantities of silt from clogged box drains at Maitrivanam, enabling rainwater to flow without stagnation. This step prevented waterlogging in the busy commercial and residential hub.

As part of long-term flood prevention, GHMC is undertaking stormwater drain remodelling to widen narrowed stretches. They are also planning a special trunk line to divert excess water during heavy downpours.

Authorities said they are expanding the nearby Krishna Kanth Park pond to temporarily store excess rainwater and release it in a controlled manner. The diversion plan aims to reduce the risk of flooding around Ameerpet and Maitrivanam, even when surrounding localities such as Jubilee Hills and Yousufguda report heavy rainfall.

Officials added that these measures, combining immediate drain clearance with structural interventions, form part of the city’s broader flood management strategy.
