Hyderabad: A video of a significant water leakage at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport on August 19, 2024, went viral on social media. The incident occurred amid heavy rainfall, leading to concerns about the airport’s infrastructure resilience.

Passenger Serish took to X (formerly Twitter) to draw attention to the issue, stating, “Hyderabad Airport joins the leaky-proof infrastructure party.”

In response, the official X handle of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport acknowledged the problem, stating, “Thank you for highlighting the issue. The heavy rainfall led to unusual water leakage in the terminal. Our technical team responded promptly and is working on resolving the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and assure you that our ground team is closely monitoring the situation.”

The leakage occurred after heavy rains caused water to seep through the roof of the terminal, leading to wet areas that passengers and staff had to navigate. This has prompted discussions about the need for urgent repairs and improved preparedness for extreme weather conditions.

One X user commented, “It is the new extension of the terminal which opened a year ago. Sadly, the new infrastructure projects aren’t robust yet.”

Several users have expressed their inconvenience and concerns regarding the situation, highlighting the pressing need for maintenance and upgrades to handle severe weather conditions.
