Hyderabad airport issues advisory ahead of app drivers strike

HYDERABAD: Ahead of a nationwide strike by app-based drivers on February 7, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) on Wednesday issued a travel advisory, warning passengers that app-based transport services may be unavailable.
“In view of a pan-India strike called by drivers of app-based transport aggregators, app-based cab, auto and bike taxi services may be unavailable on February 7. Airport operations at RGIA remain unaffected,” the advisory said.
Passengers advised to plan alternate transport
The airport asked passengers to plan their commute in advance, allow additional travel time and use alternative transport options such as prepaid taxis, car rentals and the Pushpak Airport Bus. For assistance, passengers can approach the transport help desk near Aeroplaza, it added.
App-based drivers announce nationwide protest
Drivers affiliated with platforms including Uber, Ola and Rapido have called for an “All-India Breakdown” on February 7, protesting alleged fare exploitation and what they describe as government inaction.
The Telangana App-Based Drivers Forum said that despite the notification of the Motor Vehicle Aggregator Guidelines, 2025, companies continue to determine fares arbitrarily, pushing drivers into income insecurity, debt and unsustainable working conditions.
The forum also alleged that commuters are affected by surge pricing manipulation and the absence of effective regulatory oversight. It further flagged the failure of the Centre and the state government to notify minimum base fares, which it said allows platforms to cut driver earnings while increasing commissions.
