Airfares to Hyderabad soar amid US-Iran war disruptions

HYDERABAD: Flying back home has become significantly more expensive for Hyderabadis abroad as airlines sharply raised fares amid disruptions linked to the ongoing war between the United States and Iran.
Airfares on several international routes to Hyderabad have surged sharply. Some long-haul tickets have reached unprecedented levels.
For example, a direct flight from London to Hyderabad on Friday cost nearly ₹2.5 lakh. This is several times higher than the usual fare.
Gulf routes see sharp surge in prices
Passengers travelling from Gulf countries also faced a steep rise in ticket prices. Airfares from major Gulf destinations to Hyderabad increased by nearly 200% in the past few days.
Airlines reduced flight availability and rerouted aircraft due to regional tensions. These changes pushed ticket prices higher.
However, Oman-based airlines continued to offer near-normal fares between Muscat and Hyderabad. In contrast, several Indian carriers priced tickets two to three times higher on similar routes.
Travel demand rises amid uncertainty
Travel agents said reduced flight capacity and cancellations drove the price surge. High demand from passengers trying to return to India also pushed fares higher.
Airspace restrictions and fewer direct flights limited travel options. As a result, many passengers had to pay higher fares.
Meanwhile, nine flights from Gulf cities landed in Hyderabad on Thursday. These included flights from Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Muscat, Sharjah, Riyadh, Madina and Fujairah.
