Hyderabad police investigate AI deepfake and privacy violation complaint

HYDERABAD: Police have received a complaint from a Ghaziabad-based woman alleging that her former partner created and stored AI-generated deepfake images and videos of her and several other women without consent, and secretly recorded intimate content.

According to the complaint, lodged on January 3, 2026, the woman said she had been in a relationship with Hari Krishnan Manoj, a senior analyst in a top MNC, and that both families were aware of their proposed marriage. She said the two had lived together for a period.

The complainant stated that on November 29, 2025, she accessed the accused’s mobile phone gallery and found a locked folder containing deepfake images and videos created using her photographs and those of several female friends. She alleged that the folder also contained over 100 images and videos of different women, including screenshots and screen recordings made using an application called Mobizen.

She told police that when confronted in the early hours of November 29, the accused admitted during a phone call with a family friend that he had used AI tools to create deepfake images of her and other women. She alleged that he made similar admissions through WhatsApp messages and phone calls to other friends.

The woman further alleged that the accused admitted to capturing non-consensual photographs and videos of her mother, about 53, and her sister, about 20. She also claimed that the device contained recordings of sexual activity with a female friend, stored without consent.

In her complaint, she said she believed the screenshots, photographs and recordings were used to create, store and possibly circulate deepfake and obscene content. She alleged that fabricated images and videos were created of women the accused had never met, including colleagues from his previous workplaces, Xebia and TalentSprint.

She said the acts amounted to serious violations of trust, privacy and dignity, and requested police to seize all electronic devices of the accused for forensic examination. She also sought that the employer be informed, citing alleged misuse of professional and personal access.

Police said they have taken the complaint on record and are examining the allegations. The complainant has stated that she is in possession of digital evidence, including screenshots, photographs, videos and message records, which she is willing to submit for investigation.
