Adulterated ice cream unit busted in Hyderabad; one held

HYDERABAD: Sleuths of the Commissioner’s Task Force raided an illegal ice cream manufacturing unit in Bapuji Nagar under Musheerabad police station limits and apprehended one person for allegedly producing and selling adulterated and unhygienic products.
The accused, identified as Pattala Ashok, was running the unit without a valid licence, officials said. The raid was conducted by Khairtabad and Secunderabad zone task force teams along with the H-Fast team and Food Safety Officer B. Sahithi of GHMC Circle No. 40, Kavadiguda.
Expired ingredients used in large-scale production
Officials said the unit was allegedly manufacturing ice cream using expired ingredients and supplying them to wholesale and retail customers while falsely claiming quality standards.
“Expired ingredients were reportedly being used in preparation, posing a serious health risk,” officials said. The unit also lacked mandatory regulatory approvals.
Unsanitary storage and unsafe handling detected
During inspection, authorities found poor hygiene and unsafe storage practices. Raw materials and finished products were stored in unclean conditions, rendering them unfit for consumption.
A large quantity of products, including flavoured ice creams, kulfi, synthetic food colours and expired flavouring agents, was seized. The total value of the seized stock is estimated at ₹1,75,000.
The accused and seized material were handed over to Musheerabad police station for further action in Crime No. 118/2026 under Sections 125 and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The operation was carried out under the supervision of inspectors P. Raghavender and J. Rajshekar, along with sub-inspector A. Krishna and task force staff.
