Hyderabad police bust two adulterated food units, six arrested

HYDERABAD: Hyderabad police cracked down on unsafe food manufacturing and busted two adulterated food units in the Rajendranagar zone. They arrested six persons and seized contaminated food products and chemicals worth several lakh rupees.
The Commissioner’s Task Force and local police teams carried out the raids based on specific inputs. Officials said the operations exposed serious violations and posed health risks, especially to children.
Adulterated ginger-garlic paste unit in Attapur
The Commissioner’s Task Force (Jubilee Hills Zone), along with food safety officials, raided two godowns operating under the name ‘Deccan Traders’ in MM Pahadi under Attapur police station limits.
Police arrested three brothers — Sohail Charaniya (38), Raheem Charaniya (36), and Amit Charaniya (35), all residents of Secunderabad. They allegedly manufactured and sold adulterated ginger-garlic paste.
Officials said the accused prepared the paste in unhygienic conditions. They mixed acetic acid, synthetic food colours, and garlic husk. They stored the paste in open plastic tubs exposed to dust and flies.
Police said the accused supplied the product in bulk to wholesale kirana stores and catering services across Hyderabad.
Officials seized 70 quintals of ginger-garlic paste, synthetic colour packets, and 40 litres of acid stored in tins and chemical boxes. The total value of the seized material is about ₹3.5 lakh.
Police handed over the accused and the seized items to Attapur police station for further investigation.
Illegal bakery unit in Katedan raided
In a separate operation on March 24, Mailardevpally police raided an illegal food unit, ‘Madhurai Meenakshi Food Company’, in Katedan.
Police arrested three persons — Afridi Ansari (22), Yaseen (32), and Khatreshan. They allegedly manufactured cakes and donut buns using rotten eggs and chemical additives.
Police said the unit operated in unhygienic conditions. The accused used sodium benzoate, sorbic acid, calcium propionate, potassium sorbate, and PGPR liquid to process spoiled ingredients.
They sold the products as fresh items and mainly targeted children.
Officials seized 330 spoiled eggs, 150 kg of cakes and donut buns, large quantities of chemical additives, dalda, milk powder, synthetic colours, flavours, and industrial baking machinery.
Mailardevpally police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
