Hyderabad accounts for one-fourth of Telangana’s SIR anomalies
HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Region accounted for nearly one-fourth of all anomalies detected during Telangana’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. However, anomaly rates across Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy districts remained below the statewide average of 16.6%.
The latest SIR status report, as of July 31, showed that the three districts together recorded 13,81,606 anomalies, accounting for 24.5% of Telangana’s total of 56,27,534. The region has a combined electorate of more than 1.14 crore, resulting in a high absolute number of anomalies despite relatively lower anomaly rates.
Hyderabad district recorded 5,85,497 anomalies, the highest among all districts. These accounted for 12.3% of its 47,36,669 electors.
Rangareddy reported 5,31,784 anomalies among 36,99,743 electors, translating into an anomaly rate of 14.3%, or 2.3 percentage points below the state average.
Medchal-Malkajgiri recorded 2,64,325 anomalies among 29,79,130 electors. With an anomaly rate of 8.8%, it registered the lowest district-level rate in Telangana, 7.8 percentage points below the state average.
Old City records higher anomaly rates
While Hyderabad district’s overall anomaly rate remained below the state average, several Old City constituencies reported significantly higher levels.
Yakutpura and Chandrayangutta recorded anomaly rates of around 19%. Bahadurpura stood at about 18%, while Charminar reported around 17%. These constituencies exceeded the Hyderabad district average and, in some cases, also surpassed the statewide average.
In contrast, constituencies in Secunderabad and the city’s peripheral areas recorded much lower rates. Secunderabad Cantonment reported an anomaly rate of 6.75%, followed by Secunderabad at 8.1%, Musheerabad at 8.8% and Amberpet at 11.1%.
Uppal posts state’s lowest anomaly rate
Uppal recorded 31,733 anomalies among 5.47 lakh electors, translating into an anomaly rate of 5.7%, the lowest among all Assembly constituencies in Telangana.
Patancheru reported an anomaly rate of 6.31%, while Station Ghanpur and Secunderabad Cantonment each recorded about 6.7%. Lal Bahadur Nagar stood at 7.4%, followed by Serilingampally at 7.9%, Secunderabad at 8.1%, Musheerabad at 8.8%, Medchal at about 10% and Amberpet at 11.1%.
Medchal-Malkajgiri’s low district average was supported by relatively low anomaly rates in constituencies such as Malkajgiri, Kukatpally and Quthbullapur, apart from Uppal and Medchal. None of its constituencies approached the 25% to 30% anomaly rates reported in parts of northern Telangana.
