49 booked in Hyderabad for illegal water connections

HYDERABAD: Vigilance officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) have registered criminal cases against 49 individuals for illegally drawing tap connections from the board’s main pipelines.

Cases filed in Red Hills and Nampally

Officials said illegal 20mm water connections were found at Myraj & Iram Fortune Apartments, Door No. 11-5-340, Bazaar Ghat, under O&M Division-4, Red Hills High Level Section. The connections were taken in the name of Akhil and 47 others without permission. Based on the vigilance report, Nampally police registered cases against 48 flat owners.

Illegal taps found in Aghapura

In a separate inspection, vigilance teams detected two unauthorised 20mm connections at House No. 5-6-99 in Aghapura under O&M Division-4, Hindi Nagar Section. The premises belonged to Salahuddin. A case was booked against him at Habibnagar police station.

Board issues warning

HMWSSB officials warned that criminal cases would be filed against anyone taking tap connections without approval. They appealed to the public to report unauthorised or misuse of domestic connections for commercial purposes to the vigilance wing or on 9989998100.
