Shops in Hyderabad 2BHK housing colony set for public auction

HYDERABAD: The process to auction more than 1,400 shops in double-bedroom housing colonies under the Greater Hyderabad region will begin on April 9. The shops, located across 36 colonies in Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Medchal-Malkajgiri and Sangareddy districts, will be sold through public auction.

District collectors have issued notifications for the auctions. The first phase will be held on April 9 and 10 for 273 shops in eight colonies in Rangareddy district.

These shops, ranging between 60 and 400 sq ft, were built to support local business activity in colonies housing hundreds of families. They will be sold on an “as is where is” basis, said Housing Corporation Managing Director V. P. Gautam.

Minimum prices have been fixed lower than prevailing market rates. Interested buyers can visit the colonies and select suitable shops. Participants must register at the respective Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) office by 11 am on auction days with the prescribed earnest money deposit (EMD).

Funds to be used for upkeep of colonies

The government has constructed double-bedroom housing colonies with basic infrastructure for economically weaker sections. Revenue from shop auctions will be used for maintenance and development of the same colonies.

Welfare associations of residents will be formed under the Cooperative Societies Act to manage these funds. The auction proceeds will be deposited as a corpus fund and operated through joint accounts.

Income generated from the corpus, along with monthly maintenance charges collected from residents, will be used for upkeep. Expenses include maintenance of common areas such as lighting, lifts, borewells and minor repairs, reducing dependence on government funds.

The government also aims to generate employment through these shops and ensure availability of essential goods within the colonies.

Auction schedule across districts

Auctions will be conducted as follows:

  • April 9–10: 273 shops in eight colonies in Rangareddy district
  • April 15–16: 77 shops in 10 colonies in Hyderabad district
  • April 15 & 17: 892 shops in 12 colonies in Medchal-Malkajgiri district
  • April 15–18 & April 21: 372 shops in six colonies in Sangareddy district

For further details, applicants can contact the respective district housing project directors, Gautam added.
