Hyderabad 10 Km Takes 32 Mins Tomtom Traffic Index 2024

Hyderabad: With a three-fold increase in vehicle population between 2013 and 2024, Hyderabad has become one of the slower cities in recent years. According to the TomTom Traffic Index, in 2024, the average travel time for a 10-km journey in Hyderabad was 32 minutes.

The global traffic index shared by TomTom, the Dutch location technology firm, revealed that three Indian cities Kolkata, Bengaluru and Pune now rank among the top five most traffic congested cities in the world. The firm annually calculates traffic conditions in major cities worldwide, and this year’s report has placed Hyderabad ahead of Mumbai and Chennai in the country ranking.

Bengaluru was notorious for traffic congestion, however, Kolkata has pushed the Silicon Valley of India to second third position on the global ranking of slowest cities. Last year, Bengaluru was the most traffic congested city in India.

Barranquilla (Colombia) tops the list of slowest cities with the lowest average speed of 36 minutes 6 seconds while Kolkata takes second spot with an average travel time of 34 minutes 33 seconds for a 10-km journey.

The Dutch logistics firm published the traffic index of 500 cities across 62 countries. The traffic index data is extracted from floating car data (FCD) from GPS navigation devices and applications and the cities ranking is based on it. The TomTom team analyzed an unprecedented 737 billion kilometres of travel data worldwide before releasing its global traffic index. The report shows the average time spent travelling, the level of congestion and how these variables compare across different regions and cities.
