Hussain Sagar’s FTL breached as heavy rains batter Hyderabad
Hyderabad: As heavy rains battered Hyderabad city on Saturday evening, Hussain Sagar lake received huge inflows of water which led to the significant rise in the water level of the lake. The rains that lashed the city on Friday night also contributed to the inflows to the lake.
Officials from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) said the water level in the Hussain Sagar lake touched 513.51 metres at 10.30 pm on Saturday against its full tank level of 513.41 metres.
“Due to the ongoing thunderstorms across the city, we urge all citizens to prioritise safety by staying indoors and minimising unnecessary travel. The combination of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and potential lightning poses serious risks during this period. Following recent Ganesh immersion activities, waterlogging may occur in some areas despite our extensive desilting efforts over the last three days. Our teams are on standby and ready to address any challenges swiftly,” GHMC tweeted while advising people to cooperate with the officials
An hour-long heavy rain spell resulted in waterlogging in several parts of Hyderabad including Toli Chowki, Khairatabad, Mehdipatnam, Malakpet and Begumpet. Traffic congestion was reported across the arterial roads of the city.
Police personnel were seen helping the motorists navigate through the water-filled roads. Khairatabad recorded the highest rainfall of 79 mm while Karwan received 65.8 mm.
