Hussain Sagar crosses full tank level, GHMC warns low lying areas to be carefull

Hyderabad: The recent heavy rainfall that occurred in the last 24 hours has left Hyderabad’s Hussain Sagar crossing the Full Tank Level(FTL) on Tuesday afternoon. According to the official figures, while the FTL is 513.41m, the water level by 1pm on August 20, has reached to 513.63m, meanwhile, the maximum water level is 514.75m.
As per the details revealed by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), as of now, while the inflow of water into the Hussain Sagar lake is 1850 cusecs, the outflow is at 2100 cusecs.
The rains have also left several low-lying areas of Hyderabad inundated with rain water, making it difficult for the traffic movement to move ahead. GHMC and the traffic cops on the ground are clearing the roads for the ease of movement.
Meanwhile, the GHMC officials are also inspecting the control rooms and the flood affected areas to ensure smooth functioning. Further, the GHMC officials have also warned people residing in the low-lying areas to be careful, as there are chances of inundation and flood like situation in the certain areas of the city. The rains have also left several roads under bridges in the city to inundate.
GHMC Commissioner, Amrapali K also inspected some of the rain affected areas including, Vijayakal Colony in Gudimalkapur, Mehdipatnam. She also instructed the ground level staff to clear the water logging conditions as soon as possible. In case of any emergency, the residents can reach out to a toll free number 040-21111111.
Hyderabad received excess rainfall
Meanwhile, as per the details revealed by the Telangana Development Planning Society, the Hyderabad district has received as much as 73.4mm of rainfall. The rainfall has also left the city in excess. And from June 1, 2024, the city has received rainfall of 489.8mm, while the normal is 400mm. In these two and half months, there were as many as 33, and the city received rainfall.
