HRF seeks compensation for woman injured by stray bullet in Narsingi
Narsingi: Human Rights Forum(HRF) fact finding team visited K Padma from Bairagiguda village, a victim of bullet injury under Narsingi police station of Cyberabad commissionerate on Monday. The Human rights forum gathered details from the victim, locals and Narsingi police officers and demanded adequate compensation for the victim and appropriate measures to be taken to prevent such incidents from happening again.
Going further into details, a 34-year-old woman K Padma, housewife, resident of Vidyanagar Colony, Phase II, Bairagiguda Village, Gandipet Mandal sustained bullet injury after a bullet pierced through her leg on Tuesday under Narsingi police station limits. The incident sent a flurry of emotions in the neighbourhood where this is the second incident within two weeks.
According to the complaint, Padma was washing clothes, meanwhile suddenly a bullet came and hit her left leg leaving a bleeding injury. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was treated and the doctors removed the bullet. Narsingi police of Cyberabad commissionerate booked the case and started investigation.
HRF states Indian military camp and Telangana Police Academy are present in the area and they are around 2 kilometers away from the area. Further HRF team observed that there is a shooting range between the hill and Bairagiguda village, with shooting practice taking place in the direction of the hill. “Padma’s house is more than half a kilometer away from the police camp gate. Her house is much higher in elevation than the shooting range area and cannot be seen from the shooting range because there are many two-story buildings in between,” said HRF in a statement.
Explaining the financial situation of the victim, HRF said, “Her husband Venkatesh works as a mason, and they have two children. Padma used to work in housekeeping. She expressed her frustration, saying that just when she was considering finding a job again, this incident occurred, leaving her unable to walk properly on both legs. The family is now living in constant fear and despair due to the incident”.
When enquiring the Narsingi police officials about the incident, they mentioned that there are two shooting camps nearby and adjustments were made at the shooting range after suggestions from Narsingi police, added HRF in a statement.
HRF demanded that the government should immediately announce adequate compensation for the victim. A full report on the incident should be prepared promptly and the details should be made public. Appropriate measures should be taken to prevent such incidents from happening again.
