Heavy Rains: Holiday declared for all Hyderabad school for Monday

Hyderabad : With the continuous heavy downpour and flood like situation, the Hyderabad District Collector announced a holiday for all the schools in the district for Monday for the safety of children.

In an official announcement through the social media handle, the Collector Hyderabad on X (formerly Twitter) said, “Due to the forecast of heavy rains in Hyderabad District, all Primary and Secondary Schools, under all managements (Government, Aided, and Private), are hereby declared a holiday on Monday, 02-09-2024, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the children.”

For the past two days, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall has been causing havoc in several parts of the Telugu states, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

As per the weather report released, several parts of the Telangana state received rainfall in various levels. As per, IMD, “Exceptionally Heavy Rainfall occurred at isolated places in Mahabubabad district of Telangana. Extremely heavy rainfall occurred at isolated places in B. Kothagudem, Jangaon, Kamareddy, Khammam, Mahabubabad, Mulugu, Suryapet, Warangal districts of Telangana. Very heavy rainfall occurred at a few places in Karimnagar, Nagarkurnool and at isolated places in Mahabubnagar, Medak, Nalgonda, Narayanpet, Nizamabad, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Wanaparthy. Heavy rainfall occurred at a few places In Adilabad, Kumaram Bheem, M. Malkajgiri, Nirmal, Peddapalle, Rajanna Sircilla, Sangareddy, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Y. Bhuvanagiri and at isolated places in Hanumakonda, Jagtial, Khammam, Nagarkurnool Districts of Telangana.”

What is the reason behind sudden rains?

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that the current rains are due to the depression formed in the Bay of Bengal.

“The depression over north Andhra Pradesh & south Odisha coasts moved west north west wards with a speed of 15 Kmph during the past 6 hours and lay centered at 0530 hours IST of today, the 01st September, 2024 over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh near latitude 18.5°N and longitude 83.0°E, about 90 km north-northwest of Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 120 km west of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 120 km east of Malkangiri (Odisha), 120 km east-southeast of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh) and 220 km west-southwest of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 380 km east of Ramagundam (Telangana). It is likely to move west-northwestwards across South Odisha & South Chhattisgarh and weaken into a Well Marked Low Pressure Area during next 24 hours. The Monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh, Betul, Bramhapuri, Jagdalpur, centre of depression over south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and thence southeastwards to westcentral Bay of Bengal,” according to the IMD.
