Hyderabad police register eight cases amid rising hoax bomb threats

Listen to Story

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police have registered eight cases following a series of hoax bomb calls to various flights originating from Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) over the past few weeks. All these threats appeared to have been made using anonymous accounts on the microblogging platform X (formerly Twitter).

Budget carrier IndiGo’s six flights have received bomb threats while one Air India flight was affected due to the threats which eventually turned out to be a false alarm. However, due to the activation of security check protocols, these threats caused immense disruption to air travel.

Using social media platforms, a few unidentified users made these hoax bomb threats. However, the security personnel at the Hyderabad airport carried out extensive searches and mobilized multiple agencies each time an alert was raised. These hoaxes have not only impacted flight schedules but also strained security resources and affected passenger confidence, the police officials stated.

As the series of false alerts continues, concerns are growing over the unchecked spread of such threats through anonymous accounts. There is rising public pressure on social media platforms like X to consider policies addressing the misuse of anonymous profiles to prevent future incidents.
