HMDA plans two elevated corridors linking Hyderabad to ORR

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has drawn up plans to build two new elevated corridors to improve connectivity from the city’s core areas to the Outer Ring Road (ORR).
One corridor is proposed from Sheikhpet Nala to the Chaitanya Bharathi Institute of Technology (CBIT) at Gandipet, while the second will connect Banjara Hills to Gachibowli. The projects aim to reduce congestion and enable faster access to the ORR.
HMDA is already executing an elevated corridor on the Hyderabad–Nagpur highway to provide direct access from Secunderabad to the ORR. Another elevated corridor from Paradise in Secunderabad to the ORR junction at Shamirpet on the Hyderabad–Karimnagar route is set to begin soon.
Banjara Hills–Gachibowli expressway proposed
In addition, HMDA has proposed a new elevated corridor from Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills via Film Nagar, Judges Colony and the Durgam Cheruvu stretch, extending through the Shilpa Layout flyover to the ORR at Gachibowli.
The state government has given in-principle approval for this expressway, aimed at easing traffic for IT employees and providing faster access from the city centre to the ORR. The proposed road is expected to include six lanes, with steel bridges along a significant portion and multiple underpasses to ensure uninterrupted traffic flow. HMDA has completed a preliminary survey and is in the process of appointing a consultant to prepare a detailed project report.
Sheikhpet–Gandipet road to be widened to 200 feet
To address heavy congestion on the Mehdipatnam,Tolichowki,Sheikhpet,Raidurg,Gachibowli stretch, HMDA is planning a new road along the Gandipet conduit from Sheikhpet Nala to CBIT. The existing road along the conduit will be widened to 200 feet on both sides.
Once the widening is completed, HMDA plans to construct an elevated corridor of about 7 km on this stretch, enabling motorists to reach the ORR directly with fewer traffic bottlenecks.
Shamirpet elevated corridor awarded
Construction of the 18.5-km elevated corridor from Paradise to the Shamirpet ORR junction has been awarded to BECEM Infra Projects Limited under the EPC model at a cost of ₹2,232 crore. Of the total length, 11.65 km will be six-lane flyovers, 6.52 km will be at ground level, and a 450-metre underground tunnel will be built near Hakimpet.
HMDA has set a 24-month deadline for completion. Once operational, the corridor is expected to significantly improve access to Hyderabad for commuters from northern Telangana districts, including Nizamabad, Medak, Siddipet, Sircilla, Karimnagar and Adilabad.
