HMDA to rebuild defence facilities for Paradise-Shamirpet corridor

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will rebuild five Ministry of Defence (MoD) establishments as part of land acquisition for the proposed Paradise-Shamirpet Elevated Corridor on State Highway-1, Rajiv Rahadari.
The facilities belong to the Directorate General of Quality Assurance (DGQA), Headquarters 54 Infantry Division, Senior Quality Assurance Establishment (SQAE), Trishul Lines and Training Battalion units.
HMDA will construct new compound walls and underground water sumps. The agency will also restore damaged electricity and sewage utilities, along with other Army assets affected by the project.
Reconstruction works worth crores
HMDA has estimated works at the DGQA and HQ 54 Infantry Division area at ₹7.20 crore. Reconstruction at SQAE Armaments (P24) will cost ₹6.81 crore.
Works at Trishul Lines near Lothkunta Junction have been pegged at ₹5.72 crore. The JCOs Married Accommodation near Alwal Junction will require ₹25.95 crore. HMDA will also take up works at the Training Battalion (2TB) facilities.
“We will complete the works within the next six months. Military Engineering Services (MES) and defence engineering personnel will closely monitor the works to ensure compliance with security norms,” an HMDA official said.
Contractors asked to follow defence protocols
HMDA officials said contractors must strictly follow defence security protocols during construction.
Officials instructed contractors not to disrupt military operations or routine activities inside defence zones.
According to HMDA, the project reflects growing coordination between civilian authorities and defence establishments in Hyderabad, where cantonment and military lands intersect with urban infrastructure expansion.
“Despite large land parcels belonging to the Local Military Authority (LMA) and Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) intersecting with metropolitan expansion, we are executing this project,” an HMDA engineer said.
Six-lane elevated corridor to improve connectivity
The 18.10-km Rajiv Rahadari elevated corridor carries an estimated cost of ₹2,232.89 crore. Authorities are executing the project under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
The project requires acquisition of 114 acres of defence land and 78 acres of private land.
The six-lane corridor will pass through West Marredpally, Karkhana, Trimulgherry, Bolarum, Alwal, Hakimpet and Thumkunta before connecting to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) junction at Shamirpet.
Officials said the corridor will reduce travel time between Paradise and Shamirpet. It will also improve connectivity to northern parts of Telangana.
