HYDERABAD: For the first time, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will raise ₹2,144 crore through infrastructure bonds to fund a series of major road projects aimed at improving connectivity and easing traffic congestion across the city.

Government clears ₹136.5 crore for road widening, strengthening

In addition, the state government has accorded administrative sanction for ₹136.5 crore for related road widening and strengthening works, with tenders to be floated shortly.

Among the major projects planned is an elevated corridor from the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) in Banjara Hills to the Shilpa Layout Flyover, estimated to cost ₹1,656 crore. The corridor will provide direct, signal-free access to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Gachibowli.

Planned in two phases, the 9-km-long corridor will run parallel to the Mehdipatnam–Gachibowli radial road. Officials said it would reduce traffic conflicts, improve safety and cut travel time in one of the city’s busiest stretches.

The corridor will have a mix of four-lane and six-lane sections, with six entry and exit points at Film Nagar, Narne Road, Road No. 52, ITC Kohenur Road, T-Hub Junction and Auro Realty Junction.

Budvel trumpet interchange, elevated corridors among key works

Another key project is a trumpet interchange at Budvel, connecting Radial Road-2 with the ORR. Estimated to cost ₹488 crore, the interchange is expected to facilitate smoother traffic movement between Gachibowli, Shamshabad, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and Budvel.

Connectivity projects to ease congestion across western, northern Hyderabad

The government has also sanctioned ₹110 crore for widening and strengthening Pipeline Road from Shankarpally Road at Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Technology (MGIT) to Manikonda. The project includes junction development at the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) junction.

Separately, ₹26.5 crore has been allocated for widening the left carriageway of the ORR between Nanakramguda and Gachibowli. Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) plans to expand the stretch from three lanes to four lanes to ease traffic bottlenecks.
