HMDA plans new road corridors and widening projects to ease traffic in Hyderabad’s western suburbs

HYDERABAD: To enhance connectivity and reduce traffic in Hyderabad’s expanding western suburbs, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has released draft notifications for new road projects and widening initiatives. These proposals, part of the metropolitan development plan, will impact numerous survey numbers across villages in Ranga Reddy and Hyderabad districts.

The primary project is the proposed missing link road from Bairagiguda to Narsingi (Shankerpalli Road) and onward to Manchirevula, designated as Corridor No. 131. This corridor will connect the Narsingi APPA Service Road to the Chevela – Radha Realty Corporation Road via Mantri Euphoria.

The draft variations published in the Telangana Gazette identify major projects, including Corridor No. 131, which will pass through Manchirevula, Narsingi, Bairagiguda, and Ibrahimbagh villages. More than 30 survey numbers in Manchirevula are affected. The Pipeline Road widening is planned in two phases, from Shankarpally Road at MGIT to Manikonda, and from Manikonda to Shaikpet, impacting properties in Kokapet, Narsingi, Puppalaguda, Pappalaguda, Manikonda Khalsa, and Shaikpet.

The Neknampur Lake Road widening will affect lands in Neknampur village (Gandipet Mandal) and Ibrahimbagh (Golkonda, Hyderabad). Additional projects include a new service road from ORR Exit 18A along the Musi River and grid road connections near Alekya.

Multiple villages affected

HMDA noted that these road alignments fall within areas covered by existing master plans, including the HUDA Master Plan (2008) for the Himayatnagar zone and the Metropolitan Development Plan-2031 (MDP-2031) for Moinabad-Rajendranagar. The current notification is a draft variation to formally include these roads in statutory development plans as Master Plan Roads, a key step for land acquisition and planning.

Publishing the draft initiates the public consultation process. HMDA encourages residents and property owners in the affected villages to review the notification.

Affected parties and concerned citizens should verify whether their property survey numbers are listed. They may submit objections or suggestions to HMDA within the specified time frame in the official notification.

Upon completion, the new road network is expected to enhance east-west connectivity, reduce travel time to the IT corridors of Gachibowli and HITEC City, and ease congestion on major routes such as Shankarpally Road. However, significant land acquisition will likely be required, affecting agricultural, open, and settled lands in Hyderabad’s peripheral villages.
