Hitech city road manhole covers damaged, accident risk under railway bridge
HYDERABAD: Residents noticed two broken stormwater manhole covers under the Hitech City Railway Station bridge on NAC Road. They warned that these damaged covers could cause deadly accidents if not fixed soon.
On the social media platform X(Formerly Twitter), Narayana Jaya Prakash, BJP Allwyn Colony division Vice President, asked city officials to replace the broken stormwater manhole covers right away. In fact, he said this spot is on a busy road connecting to Hitech City.
Speaking to HyderabadMail, Prakash said he recently saw the damaged stormwater manhole cover while traveling in the area. He found it close to falling in, with only small barricades around it for safety. Moreover, he explained that this road is an important route to Hitech City and is right across from the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation’s NAC office. Many people, including workers and officials, use this stretch, especially during Praja Vani public meetings and other events at the office.
Prakash said the stormwater manhole cover is in the middle of the road, so big vehicles have to slow down or stop to avoid it. As a result, since this area already has a lot of traffic, it often causes traffic jams.
Heightened risk at night and during rain
Prakash was especially worried about what happens after dark. During the day, drivers can see and avoid the manhole cover. However, at night, or when it is raining, the broken cover is hard to spot, and this could easily lead to a bad accident.
He said that after seeing the problem, his coworkers told him to make the problem public by tagging city officials on social media. That is why he posted about it and asked for quick help.
Prakash is urging the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and other city departments to check and replace the damaged stormwater manhole covers as soon as possible. This area is important because it is close to a major public office and is used by many people traveling to Hitech City.
