High Court Parirakshana Samithi opposes biodiversity destruction for new HC building

Listen to Story

Hyderabad: High Court Parirakshana Samithi urged Telangana Chief Minister to reconsider the decision to shift the High Court to Rajendra Nagar and suggest constructing it in the Malakpet Race Course Club land.

On December 31, 2023, the Telangana Government issued a Government Order (GO) No. 55, allocating 100 acres of Agricultural University land in Rajendra Nagar for the new High Court building. The proposed site is 12 kilometers from the current High Court location.

Speaking on the same, Mamidi Venu Madhav, a High Court advocate and member of High Court Parirakshana Samithi, said “The government claims no open lands are available in Hyderabad City for the new High Court building except Rajendra Nagar Agriculture University lands. However, the proposed Rajendra Nagar Agriculture University land consists of 40 Acres Bio-Diversity park with rare species of trees, plants, birds and others, which would be destroyed for the new high court building, unacceptable to environment lovers, and the Bio Diversity park is lungs for Hyderabad City.”

The High Court Advocates have conducted General Body Meetings on two occasions and opposed the move to shift the High Court to Rajendranagar. Unfortunately, the two resolutions were not submitted to the High Court Registry, added Madhav.

Malakpet Race Course Club proposed as alternative

An alternative proposal suggests using the 168-acre Malakpet Race Course Club land for both the High Court and integrated courts, including City Civil Courts, Criminal Courts, Tribunals, and other judicial institutions. This approach is similar to the Madras High Court, where lower courts are in one compound. A statement released by High Court Parirakshana Samithi said, “The Right of Advocates Community to have hassle-free practice is possible at one place if the High Court and Integrated Courts functions at one place. Due to several advantages, the State of Telangana should reconsider its proposal of shifting the High Court to Rajendranagar.”

According to the High Court Parirakshana Samithi, shifting to Rajendranagar is a blunder by the State Government and no prudent person appreciates destroying Biodiversity Park at Rajendra Nagar Agricultural University for a new High Court Building. The Agri University lands must be utilized for research purposes only but not for any other purpose.

The High Court Parirakshana Samithi urges Telangana Chief Minister Anumula Revanth Reddy to reconsider the government’s proposal and avoid disadvantaging the Advocates Community. They also urge him to allot 168 acres of Malakpet Race Course club land for the High Court and Integrated Courts.
