Heavy traffic jams hit Hyderabad-Vijayawada highway post-festival
Hyderabad: As the Dasara and Bathukamma holidays conclude and schools and colleges reopen, heavy traffic congestion has been reported on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada national highway. Many people are returning from their hometowns and neighbouring states, including Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Odisha, and West Bengal, leading to significant delays.
The influx of vehicles at toll gates has resulted in extensive traffic jams. Traffic was halted for nearly five kilometers at the Duddeda toll gate in Siddipet district, prompting authorities to temporarily suspend toll collection to facilitate the flow of vehicles. Similar traffic conditions were observed on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad highway, where vehicles moved slowly due to congestion.
Additionally, heavy traffic was reported at the Bibinagar toll plaza last night, which has become non-functional, causing a backlog of approximately 15 kilometers. Many residents returning from their hometowns for the festival experienced delays spanning several kilometers.
In response to the heavy rush during the festival season, the Telangana government had previously implemented measures to alleviate congestion, including operating additional buses and extra train services by the South Central Railway.
The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) operated buses to Vijayawada, Bengaluru, and other locations via Gachibowli ORR to accommodate IT corridor employees. Specific numbers of buses were allocated from various departure points: 1,602 from JBS, 1,193 from LB Nagar, 585 from Uppal, and 451 from Aramgarh. TGSRTC officials confirmed that special services would also be arranged for return journeys on October 13 and 14.
For more details, passengers can contact the TGSRTC call center at 040-694400000 or 040-23450033. A destination tracking app is also available to help passengers monitor bus movements efficiently.
