Heavy rains cause severe waterlogging in Hyderabad’s Safdar Nagar
Hyderabad: The recent heavy rains have caused severe waterlogging in Safdar Nagar, Hyderabad, leading to significant inconveniences for residents. The situation remains unresolved, prompting residents to call for immediate intervention from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Disaster Response Force (DRF) emergency team.
Speaking with Hyderabad Mail, MA Ahmed, a local resident, expressed frustration over the ongoing issues. “Rainwater continues to log in Safdar Nagar, particularly where the Nala is open. The roads are in poor condition, and there are no box-type rainwater harvesting provisions. Additionally, many nalas lack proper mesh, and several lanes are in a deplorable state with low-hanging electric wires. Immediate action is needed,” Ahmed said.
He further highlighted the multiple problems plaguing the area. “Our requests for official visits have been ignored, as Safdar Nagar is considered a remote area. Despite its dense population, it remains neglected in terms of infrastructure. The rainwater remains uncleared, and the area’s infrastructure issues are longstanding.”
Ahmed also pointed out that Safdar Nagar, situated in the heart of the developed Hi-Tech City, Kukatpally, and Jubilee Hills, is experiencing severe problems. Additionally, a large pipeline running through the area regularly accumulates trash, and the dividing fence between Kukatpally and Safdar Nagar is falling apart and damaged.
The residents of Safdar Nagar are urging the authorities to address these long-standing issues promptly to alleviate their current plight.
Meanwhile, the DRF team is actively clearing fallen trees and addressing waterlogging in several areas, including Skandagiri Temple, Warasiguda, Anjaneya Nagar, Moosapet, Gajularamaram, Jaipuri Colony, Nagole, Venkatapuram Road in Alwal, SR Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, and Vayapuri Needmet Road.
