Heavy rains flood Hyderabad

Hyderabad: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) of Telangana has issued a severe weather warning as heavy rains are expected to continue across the state for the next two days. In Hyderabad, rain has been relentless since late last night, causing significant flooding on roads and affecting daily life.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), districts including Nirmal, Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Adilabad, Asifabad, Mancherial, and Bhadradri Kothagudem are anticipated to experience heavy rainfall. Gusts of wind reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour are also forecasted. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a high alert for the region, with yellow and orange alerts assigned to different districts. Residents in low-lying areas are advised to make advance arrangements to safeguard against potential flooding.

Telangana Weatherman @balaji25_t reported on ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter, on August 12, 2024 (Monday) and said that heavy downpours began in Hyderabad around 4 a.m. and are expected to continue in many areas until 8 a.m., after which rainfall is expected to decrease to light showers. Notable rainfall measurements include 89.0 mm at the Osmania University Registrar Office in LB Nagar, 87.5 mm at MCH Colony, Library Building in Musheerabad, and 50.0 mm at Chandulal Baradari in Falaknuma.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has raised its alert levels in response to the flooding. Officials have issued warnings about the risk of ancient buildings potentially collapsing due to the intense rainfall. With roads severely flooded and many residents commuting to work, the Metro system is experiencing a high volume of passengers. GHMC officials have warned people not to open manholes anywhere without their permission.
