Heavy rain expected in Hyderabad: IMD issues orange alert

Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Hyderabad and several other districts in Telangana due to anticipated heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours. The forecast includes moderate to heavy rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds.
An orange alert has been issued for Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Jagitial, Rajanna Sirsilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Warangal, and Hanamkonda, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rain in isolated locations.
Additionally, a yellow alert has been issued for Nirmal, Nizamabad, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Siddipet, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, and Jogulamba Gadwal, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in isolated places.
Concerns have been raised on social media about the possibility of flooding in Hyderabad and other areas due to the heavy rainfall.
Telangana Weatherman @balaji25_t took to social media X, stating, “FLOODING RAIN WARNING: Are we going to see Musi floods again? The answer looks to be yes. The depression track is shifting down, and serious rains are expected in central and southern Telangana over the next 48 hours. Hyderabad will also experience flooding rains from this system. Rain intensity will increase in Hyderabad after 9 a.m., with continuous moderate rains ahead. Krishna, Musi, and Manjeera rivers are likely to face flooding due to this system. STAY SAFE EVERYONE.”

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has also issued a safety notice, urging residents to exercise extreme caution.
In their official statement on social media, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) advised, “Due to the ongoing heavy rains, we urge everyone to follow safety guidelines. Your safety is our priority.”
