Heatwave continues in Hyderabad: Slight relief expected over next few days

Hyderabad: Telangana Weatherman, Balaji, on February 20, 2025, has predicted a slight reduction in temperatures over the next two days.

According to his forecast, temperatures are expected to drop by around 1°C, bringing the heat down to about 35-36°C. Further cooling is anticipated from February 23-26, with temperatures expected to range between 34-35°C. Mornings are expected to remain pleasant, though fog could occur in a few areas.

In his update, Balaji mentioned that the eastern and northern parts of Telangana would continue to experience warm and humid conditions in the coming days. He also stated that there would be no significant rainfall during this period.

On February 19, 2025, the Telangana Development Planning Society recorded the following maximum temperatures: 38.4°C in Uppal Mandal (New Nagole Welfare Association), 37.5°C in Quthbullapur, and 36.2°C in Malkajgiri.

Balaji also highlighted the uncomfortable heat on February 19, noting that many areas in Hyderabad recorded temperatures between 36-37°C. The night temperatures were particularly high due to a partly cloudy sky, which trapped heat. He predicted a slight respite from the heat starting February 20, with temperatures dropping by 1-2°C.

In addition to the weather forecast, Balaji urged the government to implement mandatory rainwater harvesting systems at every household and to divert stormwater to underground drainage systems. He also called for stricter laws regarding groundwater usage to ensure sustainable water management in the face of increasing temperatures.

As the summer season progresses, experts advise residents to take necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy in the heat:

1. Drink plenty of water and consume hydrating foods like fruits and vegetables.

2. Protect your skin from the sun by using sunscreen with SPF 30+ and wearing sunglasses. Light, breathable clothing is recommended.

3. Schedule outdoor activities during the early mornings or evenings to avoid the intense midday heat.

4. Keep your home cool using fans, air conditioning, or homemade ice packs.

5. Opt for light summer meals like refreshing salads and grilled dishes.

Residents are urged to stay prepared and follow these tips to stay comfortable during the upcoming heatwave.
