Heart-shaped traffic lights leave Hyderabad citizens smiling!

Hyderabad: Hyderabad is glowing with love this World Heart Day, celebrated on September 29, 2024! The city’s traffic lights have transformed into vibrant heart shapes, creating a delightful and meaningful sight at intersections throughout Cyberabad. This heartwarming initiative is part of a campaign launched by Star Hospitals in collaboration with the Cyberabad Traffic Police, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
Residents have expressed their delight over the awareness campaign with Hyderabad Mail. Sri Harsha Tulasi, a citizen and admin of Team Road Squad, said, “It’s wonderful to see Hyderabad embrace heart-shaped signals for health awareness! It’s a creative twist, much like Chennai’s efforts for road safety.”
R. Sasidhar, a doctor and Hyderabad citizen, shared his thoughts, saying, “The red heart signals at various crossroads in Cyberabad came as a pleasant surprise. After some background research, I learned it’s a fantastic initiative by Star Hospitals and the collaboration with the Cyberabad Police. It’s indeed a significant move by government officials to promote heart health awareness in a poetic and eye-catching manner.”
Sasidhar further said the importance of this initiative, particularly given the rising cases of heart attacks among young adults. He highlighted the need for basic knowledge regarding heart health and the warning signs of heart disease.
“Heart awareness involves understanding heart health, recognising symptoms of heart disease, and knowing how to maintain a healthy heart. This includes lifestyle choices such as a balanced diet, regular exercise, avoiding smoking, and managing stress. It’s crucial to be aware of risk factors like high blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and family history of heart disease. Regular check-ups and screenings can help in early detection and prevention. Educating yourself and others can significantly improve heart health outcomes,” he added.
Usha, another resident, said, “The red heart traffic signals brought a smile to my face when I first saw them. Initially, I wasn’t sure of their purpose, but I later learned that it’s an initiative to raise awareness about heart health. I found it to be a creative and effective way to grab attention and encourage people to take steps towards a healthier heart.”
Aditya, an IT employee, shared his initial confusion, saying, “I was amused, thinking whether the light was not working properly. Then, I saw the ads the next day and was impressed by how nicely the campaign delivered a subtle message with deep meaning and importance. I loved the awareness campaign regarding heart health.”
Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Star Hospitals’ Chief Operating Officer, Bhaskar Reddy, stated, “We launched this initiative in honour of World Heart Day intending to raise awareness about heart health. Even young people are experiencing heart attacks nowadays, so we decided to focus on the Cyberabad area. This initiative is being supported by the Cyberabad Police and GHMC. The Cyberabad Traffic Police has granted permission for this initiative because the prevalence of heart problems are increasing, and it’s important to remind people to take care of their hearts and exercise regularly.”
“Symbolically, heart-shaped lights have been placed on the traffic signals. This initiative aims to serve as a reminder and spark conversations, encouraging people to check their heart health regularly. Young people must get checked at least once a year to maintain their health. The heart-shaped lights can be seen throughout the entire Cyberabad limits, including areas such as the Financial District, Nanakramguda, Khajaguda, and Miyapur,” said Bhaskar Reddy.
The official handle of Star Hospitals took to social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, to spread the word, stating, “Have you noticed the red heart traffic signals around Hyderabad? It is not just a light – it is your sign to take action for a healthier heart. Simply, spot the heart-shaped traffic lights, scan the QR code, and unlock essential insights into heart health.”
Residents are encouraged to scan the QR codes at these heart-shaped signals to access valuable tips on maintaining heart health.
