Hawala racket accused held; ₹4.05 crore cash seized by Bowenpally police

HYDERABAD: Bowenpally police on December 4, 2025 apprehended the prime accused in a cash RTGS cheating case and seized ₹4.05 crore in alleged hawala money during a special operation in Mahabubnagar district.
Police said the arrest is linked to Crime No. 665/2024, booked under Sections 316(2) and 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Bowenpally police station, North Zone.
Complaint involved ₹50 lakh cash-for-RTGS fraud
According to the FIR, complainant V Vishwanath Chary of Nagole told police on December 7, 2024 that he and two friends Pradeep and Ravi had handed over ₹50 lakh to Mohammad Subhan Pasha as part of a cash RTGS exchange arrangement. They were promised ₹60 lakh through RTGS in return. However, neither was the RTGS made nor was the amount returned.
The case was subsequently registered at Bowenpally police station.
Accused held in Addakal; hawala cash seized
Acting on credible information, a police team intercepted a Hyundai Creta (MH 49 CL 2496) within Addakal police station limits in Mahabubnagar district on December 4, 2025 and detained Prakash Motibhai Prajapathi, 30, and Pragnesh Keerthi bai Prajapathi, 28, both from Gujarat.
During interrogation, Prakash Prajapathi admitted to cheating the complainant in August 2024 as part of the cash–RTGS fraud. Police said he also confessed to transporting ₹4.05 crore of hawala cash from Nagpur to Bengaluru.
The amount was seized under a panchanama and is being verified for its source, ownership and possible illegal financial links.
Police caution public against easy-money schemes
The police advised citizens to avoid cash RTGS exchange deals and similar “easy money” propositions, warning that such arrangements could lead to financial loss and criminal liability. They urged the public to report any suspicious financial activity or hawala movement to the nearest police station.
